The Confederation of Trade Unions (CTU) is asking for the salaries of Government workers to be tripled. CTU President S.Ganbaatar and other officials made that request at a press conference in Ulaanbaatar on Thursday.

They say Government salaries are not keeping up with inflation, which, according to the National Statistics Committee, has risen by more than ten percent since last October.

Journalists asked if such a large salary increase wouldn’t actually make inflation worse by increasing the cash supply. But Ganbaatar said it would not be necessary for new banknotes to be printed, that the raises could be implemented with the amount of case already available.
