The Reindeer festival will be held in Tsagaannuur soum of Khuvsgul province on January 27 and 28. The festival was first held in 2018 with the aim of promoting the traditions and culture of reindeer herders. Year after year, the scope of the festival has broadened, and since 2023 it has been held annually with the support of the Minister of Culture, with the aim of promoting winter tourism in Mongolia.
This year’s festival will feature events such as Tuvan and Darkhad folk songs, traditional arts, khoomei (Mongolian throat singing), and a reindeer sledge race. Local small- and medium-sized enterprises will exhibit their art creations and products. Reindeer herders will participate in it too.
There are over 300 reindeer herders in Tsagaannuur soum of Khuvsgul Province. This year, 400–500 reindeer will participate in the festival, a local official said.
The festival attracts many visitors from abroad as well as local attendees. As of 2025, around 50 tourists came to see the festival.
