"Horses of Mongolian Steppe” festival held in Khentii province

The “Horses of Mongolian Steppe” festival was held in Chinggis City, Khentii Province on November 22. It is one of many promotional events for supporting tourism sector and passing on Mongolia’s horse culture to future generations. The festival, now in its 11th year, has great significance in terms of tradition and history. Organizers reported that about 10,000 people attend the festival each year, noting that there is potential for further expansion in the future.

Participants of the festival came from all over Mongolia, and international tourists also came to experience the unique life of nomads and horse culture firsthand.

Chinggis City, located in the eastern part of Khentii Province, is a new center that unites the history, culture, and modern development of Mongolia. The city is named after Genghis Khan, not just a name, but a symbol that carries forward the legacy of the great Mongolian leader to the present day.

Mongolia ranks among the top worldwide in terms of its horse population. According to the National Statistical Office of Mongolia, as of the end of 2024, there were approximately 57.6 million livestock animals, of which 8.1 percent (around 4.68 million) were horses.
