After a 15-day strike, schools and kindergartens resumed operations

Teachers and education support personnel (ESP) are on strike across the country since October 16th, 2025, urging the government of Mongolia to increase their basic salary to 3.5 million tugriks (around 840 euros) as well as the education budget for 2026. 35569 employees from 675 schools and kindergartens across Mongolia have joined this permanent strike. After a 15-day strike, schools and kindergartens resumed operations on Wednesday (November 5, 2025).

The strike was called by the Federation of Mongolian Education and Science Unions (FMESU) to demand better living conditions for educators and greater investment in public education. The Federation of Mongolian Education and Science Unions held a trilateral meeting with T.Aubakir, Minister of Family, Labour and Social Protection and P.Naranbayar, Minister of Education on Monday (November 3, 2025).

As a result of the agreement, the basic salary of teachers in the 2026 budget will be increased to 2,226,000 tugriks, and by the end of the year, it will be increased to 2.8 million tugriks. “In the future, the basic salary will be increased to 3.5 million tugriks,” emphasized Minister of Education and Science P.Naranbayar.
