Mongolian prime minister resigns after four months

Mongolian Prime Minister G.Zandanshatar stepped down on Friday /2025.10.17/ after losing the support of parliament, vacating the pivotal role just four months after taking office. Lawmakers voted to dismiss G.Zandanshatar, a former foreign minister and parliamentary speaker, during a parliamentary session. Prime Minister G.Zandanshatar was dismissed by 64 percent, or 71 members, of the 111 members who participated in the vote on whether to dismiss the Prime Minister.

The 55-year-old was confirmed as the country’s 32nd prime minister in June after his predecessor, L.Oyun-Erdene, quit, also after losing parliamentary backing, due to corruption claims and street protests.

A vote was held to support the proposal to dismiss Parliament Speaker D.Amarbayasgalan. Of the 114 members who participated, 102 — or 89.5 percent — supported the motion, and Speaker D.Amarbayasgalan was subsequently dismissed from his duties. Yesterday /2025.10.16/, the proposal was discussed at a meeting of The Standing Committee on State Structure and was supported by 100 percent of the members.
