Since the beginning of 2025, a total of 11 forest-steppe fires occurred across Mongolia, burning an area of 18,880 hectares. About 90 percents of these wildfires were caused by human negligence.
Strong winds and storms continue to sweep across Mongolia. As of March 9, several forest-steppe fire reports were recorded in three eastern provinces and Arkhangai province. A total of 11 forest fires were recorded in Dornod, Khentii, Sukhbaatar and Arkhangai provinces.
Due to the fires that spread across the eastern provinces, many families are in a state of extreme distress, with their homes and livestock burned down. Thus, National Emergency Management Agency decided to provide some gers to families who affected by fire. Aid convoy will head to the eastern provinces today /2025.03.11/. As part of the aid, a task force was established yesterday to provide medical care to families, citizens, and children affected by the fire, organize the reconstruction of homes and environments, provide psychological counseling, rehabilitate livestock affected by the fire, destroy animal carcasses, disinfect, and support their livelihoods.
