Visa-free travel to Mongolia for Korean citizens extended

The visa-free travel period for Korean citizens visiting Mongolia for tourism purposes has been extended by one year. The Mongolian government issued a temporary permission of visa-free travel for Korean citizens since 2022. The permit was valid until December 2024 and has been extended until December 31, 2025.

As a result, Mongolia’s tourism market is expected to grow by 2025.

But Korean citizens who come to Mongolia for work, study and long-term residence have to get appropriate visa. According to the Immigration agency of Mongolia, as of December 5, 2024, there are 32543 foreigners from 132 countries who registered for official and private residence. These include 1511 citizens of the US, 1776 citizens of the Republic of Korea, 17849 citizens of China, 4424 citizens of Russia, and 6983 citizens of other countries.

Foreign citizens residing in Mongolia are classified according to their purpose as follows:

  • Official purposes – 644
  • Work – 14006
  • Study – 6227
  • Investment – 2852
  • Migrant – 1779
  • Religion – 50
  • Family and other private purposes – 6985
