In recent years, esports has reached new heights of development, with a growing number of participants and enthusiasts worldwide. Recognizing its rising significance, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has actively integrated esports into the Olympic movement. In 2023, the IOC successfully organized the inaugural “Olympic Esports Week” in Singapore and announced plans to host the “Esports Olympic Games” in Saudi Arabia in 2025.
In alignment with these global developments, the Mongolian National Olympic Committee (MNOC) has officially established its “Esports Commission” and held its inaugural meeting. The plan and idea to establish by the NOC President Battushig Batbold was announced by him at the NOC Annual all members meeting on December 12, 2024. This commission aims to facilitate the participation of Mongolian esports teams and athletes in IOC-recognized events, enhance collaboration among member sports federations, and strengthen partnerships with relevant stakeholders.
The commission will be led by Mr. Battushig Batbold, IOC Member and President of the Mongolian National Olympic Committee. Mr. Bat-Erdene Gankhuyag will serve as the Vice Chair. Commission members include Mrs. Buyandelger Peljee, MNOC Executive Board Member and Executive Committee Member of the Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF), and Mr. Otgondalai Dorjnyambuu Rio 2016 bronze medalist, MNOC Executive Board Member, along with other representatives from Mongolia’s NOC and esports community, including NOC secretary general Mr E. Badar-Uugan, D. Batmunkh, A. Undral, Sh. Batbayar and T. Khaliunaa.
Moving forward, the MNOC Esports Commission plans to collaborate closely with the IOC Esports Commission and the OCA as well as the Saudi 2025 Esport Games organizing committee to develop strategic plans and operational roadmaps for the advancement of esports in Mongolia.
It is worth noting that esports was officially included as a medal event in the 2023 Asian Games held in Hangzhou, where the Mongolian national team achieved a remarkable silver medal. Additionally, esports competitions were held during the East Asian Youth Games 2023 hosted in Ulaanbaatar, further highlighting the growing prominence of esports in Mongolia. This milestone marks a significant step forward in Mongolia’s esports journey, paving the way for greater international success and recognition.
