May 25 is car-free day in Ulaanbaatar. 46 countries celebrate this day annually in order to prevent traffic accidents and encourage people to give up cars. Traffic accidents accounted for 11.1 percent of all deaths due to accidents and external causes.

As of 2023, 525 injuries and 57 deaths were recorded due to traffic accidents in Ulaanbaatar. In 2023, 266 people were injured due to scooter accidents, and 56 more cases were registered in 2024.

On the car-free day organized on June 3, 2023, 142 calls and reports of traffic accidents were registered. Specifically, 12 children between the ages of 2 and 14 were injured after being hit by a bicycle, while six children were hit by an electric motor bike. For this reason, the use of electric scooters and bicycles was banned during the car-free day in September 2023. This year, they will also monitor and work to prevent electric motor bikes.
