Representatives of United Nations Subcommittee on the Prevention of Torture are visiting Mongolia on May 5-16. They will evaluate the implementation of the recommendations of the previous visit in 2017 during this visit.
After their first visit the Mongolian government established national mechanism for the prevention of torture which is important step for prevention of torture.
Mongolia ratified “The Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel” (OPCAT) in 2015. The Subcommittee has the right to visit and conduct unannounced inspections in all countries who involved OPCAT. During the visit, representatives of the Subcommittee will meet with government officials, members of national prevention organizations, representatives of civil society and other UN agencies.
