At the regular meeting of the government of Mongolia, the bill to amend the law on the legal status of Ulaanbaatar city was discussed today /2024.04.17/.
Ulaanbaatar city made a reform of administrative and territorial units in 1960 after the adoption of the third Constitution. At that time, the capital of Mongolia was reformed to have four districts. Population of Ulaanbaatar was about 150,ooo. After 30 years, population has reached 600,000. So city administration made a reform again and increased the number of districts to six.
As for 2024, population of Ulaanbaatar has reached 1.7 million and nine districts are organized into 204 committees.
In the future, reforms will be made within the framework of the expansion of the capital city’s population and the goal of bringing government services closer to citizens. As part of this reform, to make districts into cities. And these cities have their own council.
