Taiwan donated 50,000 US dollars to Mongolia

Nicholas Wan, Representative from Taiwan to Mongolia, donated 50,000 US dollars to “Caritas Mongolia” on behalf of Taiwanese government. This money will be used to help herdsmen affected by the zhud disaster. Sandra Garay, the newly appointed president of “Caritas Mongolia” has accepted this donation.

Mongolia is freezing through its harshest winter in half a century with extreme conditions killing more than 5 million animals and threatening the livelihoods and food supply of thousands of people, the International Federation of the Red Cross has warned.

Sandra Garay said that “We are grateful for the attention of the Taiwanese government to the Mongolian herders. Donation money will be used responsibly in the three provinces of the eastern region of Mongolia – Dornogobi, Dundgobi, Gobi-Sumber and Uvs province. First of all, we will provide animal fodder, medicines, gasoline, warm blankets and clothes. Since the number of animals has decreased greatly, it will be necessary to transport animal carcasses and prevent the spread of infectious diseases.”

In March, Taiwanese government has donated 2,400 animal feed aid packages to Mongolia.
