New WWTP will be put into operation next year

New Wastewater treatment plant of Ulaanbaatar will be located in the 20th khoroo of Songinokhairkhan district. It is a 17.6 hectare area planned for bio-pond renewal to the west of the old Wastewater treatment plant.

“China Tiesiju Civil Engineering Group LLC” and “Beijing Construction Engineering Group LLC” are working as the general contractor of the new plant project. The detailed design of the work was carried out by the “Shanghai municipal engineering design institute Co,LTD”.

As of 2023, 85 percent of construction work has been completed, despite delays due to Covid-19.

A total of 55 buildings and objects should be built on the site of the new Wastewater treatment plant. It is planned that 1000-1200 domestic and foreign workers will be employed in the treatment plant this year. In February 2025, the contract will be completed and the facility will be handed over.

The total budgeted cost of the project is 262.7 million US dollars. Of this, 95 percent or 249.6 million US dollars will be financed by China, and 5 percent or 13.1 million US dollars will be financed by Mongolia.
