The female student answering questions in class is named Hulan. She is from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, and is currently a sophomore at Erenhot No.3 Middle School, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
Several years ago, Hulan’s parents brought her here to study and remained to work while accompanying her. Their plan is to return to Mongolia once Hulan gets admitted to a Chinese university.
Erenhot faces the border with Mongolia, being the largest land port open between China and Mongolia. There’s frequent travel of passengers, merchants, and overseas students. Several primary and secondary schools and kindergartens actively recruit students from Mongolia.
Since enrolling five transfer students from Mongolia in 1996, the No.3 Middle School has been consistently accepting Mongolian students for 27 years. In September of this year, the enrollment size for one grade reached three classes totaling 124 students.
