Ambassadors of EU Member States visits Mongolia

On the occasion of Europe Day, the EU Ambassador to Mongolia Axelle Nicaise is leading a visit of non-resident 16 Ambassadors and senior European diplomats from 20 EU Member States accredited to Mongolia to meet with the country’s political leaders as well as representatives of civil society. The EU and its Member States are partners of Mongolia in many fields: green economy, forestry, renewable energies, judicial reforms, trade diversification, etc. This is the first such visit since 2019.

Ambassador Nicaise said: “Mongolia and the European Union may be geographically distant, but close at heart. The two share the common values of democracy, human rights and rule of law. The EU is proud to be Mongolia’s third neighbour. We, Europeans, want to be with Mongolia every step on that way, as reliable and consistent partners. We encourage private investors to contribute to sustainable development in Mongolia. For this to happen, Mongolia must be an attractive place for investors.”

On Sunday 14 May the European Union and its Member States organized the Europe Day event on Sukhbaatar square. All those who participated could experience what the European Union and its Member States are doing to support Mongolia’s sustainable development through various projects and programmes for implementing commonly shared values.

The official visit from 14 to 17 May will allow the group of Ambassadors to have meetings with the President of Mongolia, the Speaker of the Parliament of Mongolia as well as various Ministers.

The objective of these meetings is to take stock of relations between the EU and Mongolia, and to discuss how to strengthen, promote and extend the scope of cooperation between the parties, consolidated following the entry into force of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement in 2017. This comprehensive agreement is an expression of the EU’s clear commitment to Mongolia and its citizens, and will provide the EU and its Member States on the one hand and Mongolia on the other with a framework for expanding their bilateral relations.

The European Union celebrate Europe Day 2023, a moment to commemorate the Schuman Declaration on 9 May 1950.  The Schuman Declaration proposed the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community, which would ultimately become today’s European Union. To mark the special occasion, EU delegations worldwide, will organise a wide range of online and on-site activities, providing citizens with the opportunity to discover and experience the European Union.
