Prime Minister of Mongolia, L.Oyun-Erdene declared 2023 as the year of fighting against corruption. Mongolia fell six places in the corruption index where the country of 3.4 million placed in the 116th out of 180 countries, according to the 2023 Corruption Perceptions Index reported by Transparency International.
As part of this, the government, ministries, departments, governors of regions and cities set a goal to implement five special measures. These follows;
- Operation “Whistle” includes measures to protect those who report corruption and malfeasance, organizing a movement to support disclosures in every possible way, and forming an intolerant attitude towards corruption in society.
- Operation “Broom” is designed to combat the situation when the level of consumption of politicians is higher than their legal income, to stop the appointment to high positions through acquaintances.
- Operation “Bird” involves the extradition of corrupt officials who fled abroad, cooperation with law enforcement agencies of foreign countries, and the protection of foreign investors.
- Operation “Return” aims to identify and return stolen funds hidden in offshore zones and foreign countries, to create a fund of returned funds, the activities of which should be transparent to the public.
- Operation “Glass” will ensure the transparency of the activities of state organizations, the elimination of bureaucracy, public control over state-owned companies, the formation of qualified management teams, the creation of an ethical and fair competitive environment.
