The Ulaanbaatar city administration announced a car-free day on 28 May, conveniently coinciding with the annual Ulaanbaatar Marathon.
The car-free day allows Ulaanbaatar residents to enjoy walking, cycling and skateboarding on main roads which usually busy with traffic.
Observed once in a year in conjunction with the annual international sportingevent, the car-free downtown is completely free of cars except for ambulance vehicles on the main roads, allowing walkers to feel the peace and quiet, and take the roads instead of the pavements.
Between 7 AM and 5 PM, roads including the central part of the Peace Avenue between the Baruun and Zuun Durvun Zam (West and East Four-way Intersections), Baga Toiruu, Seoul Street, Beijing Street, Ankara Street and Sambuu Street will be closed.
