Mongolia’s Government plans to cut budget for newly established Ministry

Due to supply distribution caused by Mongolia-China border closures and war between Russia and Ukraine, inflation skyrocketed to 14.5 percent, with the prices of food, solid fuels and gasoline increasing the most. Therefore, Mongolia’s Government has made extensive cuts of budgets from its ministries, department and agencies to redirect finances to major priorities in the current financial year 2021/2022.

According to State Secretary of the Ministry of Digital Development and Communications B.Bolor-Erdene, the newly established Ministry is now facing MNT 5 billion budget cuts.

The Ministry of Digital Development and Communications was officially formed with 87 staffs on 6 January, 2022. The Ministry  heads three institutions; namely, E-Mongolia Academy, National Data Center as well as Mongolian Radio and Television Broadcasting Network.

The Ministry is in charge of Mongolia’s digital transformation. At first, Mongolian Government launched a platform available both online and through a smartphone app called e-Mongolia. The digital ID app offers access to a wide range of government services from business, education, renewing a driver’s licenses, real estate, and immigration, as well as birth registration.

It also provides certificates for vaccinations, particularly useful with the COVID-19 pandemic. e-Mongolia currently has 2 million users and provides 640 services.
