Mongolian Olympic judoka transitioning to MMA

New Mexico is known for some of the best fighters in the world and a Mongolian athlete is joining the list. Former Mongolian judoka M.Urantsetseg Munkhbat is training at JacksonWink MMA Academy in Albuquerque.

The 32-year-old is a legend in her home country. She’s the first Mongolian woman to win an Olympic Bronze medal in judo.

“She was actually initially interested in boxing, but their boxing gym was closed, so she decided to go with judo,” said her translator named Sam.

M.Urantsetseg has been doing judo the last 16 years and has earned a lot of titles such as World Champion and Olympic medalist.

She is now transitioning to MMA and is working alongside some of the best fighters in the Duke City for the next three months. “We have a lot of Mongolian fighters here and that’s this is kind of where Mongolian fighters got their start in May,” said Sam.
