Somehow, Mongolia has a lid on the pandemic. Its relatively small population of 3.4 million made controlling the transmission of covid-19 easier but never guaranteed its success—has recorded over 460 000 cases and more than 2100 related deaths.
Today (28 February), Mongolia has registered 166 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours despite beginning to reopen all level educational institutions earlier this month. With the new cases, the infection tally in Mongolia rose to 464,211, while the death toll remained unchanged at 2,168. Many Asian countries also acted swiftly with stricter obligatory lockdowns—among them neighbouring China—but still saw infections soar.
As of Monday, 2,587 COVID-19 patients are being treated in hospitals, while 8430 others are receiving home-based care.
So far, 66.8 percent of the country’s 3.4 million people have received two COVID-19 vaccine doses, while more than 1 million people over 18 received a third shot.
In addition, more than 102,635 people have received a fourth shot.
