Mongolia’s COVID-19 death toll reaches to 2,100

Mongolia registered 3,080 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, marking the third day that daily cases have exceeded 3,000 in January. So far, Mongolia’s tally reached to 433,408.

The latest confirmed cases were all locally transmitted. Meanwhile, two more COVID-19 patients died in the past day, bringing the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 2,100.

Since the beginning of this year, daily COVID-19 infections have significantly increased across the country due to New Year celebrations and the Omicron variant.

The Omicron cases currently account for at least 90 percent of new daily infections in the country, according to the National Center for Communicable Diseases.

So far, 66.7 percent of the total population has received two COVID-19 vaccine doses, while more than 983,618 people aged over 18 have received a third dose.

In addition, nearly 55,000 Mongolians have received a fourth dose, which the country started to administer from Jan. 7 on a voluntary basis.
