Mongolia’s covid-19 cases rise by more than 600 in single day

The number of reported positive covid-19 cases in Mongolia climbed by more 1,000 earlier this week. On 12 January, the country of three million reported 1818 new virus cases; risen by 610 cases from previous day. Two more deaths were reported in last 24 hours.

Hospitalizations caused by COVID-19 rose to 4781; 37 of them are in critical condition.

The county has experienced 2076 COVID-related deaths.

On 9 January, Mongolian Health Minister S.Enkhbold confirmed the country’s first five local cases of the COVID-19 Omicron variant. The detections of the local and imported cases of the Omicron variant have indicated the beginning of a fourth wave of the pandemic in the country, he said, urging the public to remain calm and follow all relevant health guidelines. The fourth wave is expected to peak in late January or early February, according to the minister.
