Mongolia’s daily COVID-19 cases surge after New Year celebrations

Today (5 January), Mongolia has reported 585 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, the highest record since early December. Among the latest confirmed cases, 4 were imported, adding that three more COVID-19 patients died in the past day, pushing the death toll to 2065.

The country reported 441 COVID-19 cases on 2 December, 2021, and since then, less than 400 infections had been reported daily. The number of daily Covid-19 cases were decreased to 83 on 27 December, 2021.

Health authorities believe that the significant increase in cases is related to New Year celebrations and parties held at restaurants, night clubs and bars across the country.

All organizations except government agencies have celebrated New Year parties through December.
