On December 4-5, Mongolia will hold its an extraordinary festival of eagles. The 2021 Eagle Festival is expected to be held in Sayat Tolgoi in Bugat soum of Bayan-Ulgii province after it cancelled for two the past years due to Covid restrictions.
As Mongolia is one of the few remaining countries that continue to keep the 6000-year-old tradition of eagle hunting, the festival is organized twice a year, with one taking place in Ulaanbaatar in spring and the other in Bayan-Ulgii province in fall.
The Eagle Festival of Mongolia is one of the rarest festivals in the world. In this Festival, many eagle hunters and Kazakh nomads participate to showcase their traditional culture. The Kazakhs is an ethnic minority in Mongolia, but the majority in Bayan-Ulgii province.
The traditions have been revived over the past two decades following the democratization in Mongolia.
