The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development’s (EBRD) invested over USD2.2 billion into 116 projects in the country since the start of its operations in Mongolia. The statement made by President U.Khurelsukh when he met the EBRD delegation led by Managing Director for Central Asia Zsuzsanna Hargitai.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the opportunities for expanding Mongolia-EBRD cooperation in the fields of environment, green development, infrastructure, renewable energy and business.
Ms. Hargitai noted that future cooperation between Mongolia and the EBRD will be mostly focused on such areas as digitalisation, green economy, development of rural areas and support of young entrepreneurs. The EBRD expressed its willingness to share experiences and carry out specific research in the fight against climate change, in particular the decarbonization.
Emphasizing that climate and green development are global issues, President U.Khurelsukh said that Mongolia has launched a nationwide campaign to plant one billion trees by implementing a policy to spend at least one percent of GDP on the environment sector. He noted that the President’s Plan of Action, the Government’s Plan of Action, and the ‘Vision 2050’ long-term policy document are aligned with the ‘SDGs 2030′.
The President expressed commitment to cooperate with the EBRD in all aspects to implement the projects and programs discussed at the meeting and to expand cooperation in the environment sector, in particular in the fight against desertification and dust storms.
