Ireland adds Mongolia to mandatory quarantine list

Since June, daily covid-19 cases confirmed in Mongolia have soared to 2000. Therefore, many foreign countries have added Mongolia to their list of countries with banned or restricted arrivals.

For example, Irish Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has announced his intention to add Mongolia to the list of designated States, effective from 4am on Tuesday, June 22.

This means that any passengers arriving in Ireland from that date who has been in Mongolia over the past 14 days must enter into mandatory hotel quarantine, even if they simply transited through the Asian country, or remained airside in a Mongolian airport.

In addition, Mr Donnelly has removed Canada from the list of designated States. This easing of restrictions on travellers arriving from Canada came into effect immediately following Friday’s update.

All overseas passengers arriving in Ireland must provide evidence of a negative or ‘not detected’ PCR test carried out no more than 72 hours before their entry into the country.

A negative PCR test result does not impact the mandatory hotel quarantine requirement. The period of mandatory hotel quarantine can be shortened if the passenger in question receives a ‘not detected’ PCR test at least five days after their arrival.
