Mongolia widely celebrates International Children’s Day as a public holiday. Every year on 1 June, exciting events for children are organised on Sukhbaatar Square in the centre of Ulaanbaatar. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, all cultural and sports events have been cancelled by cabinet decision. Therefore, for the second year running, the Mongolian Government has decided not to publicly celebrate International Children’s Day.
International Children’s Day was established in 1949 by the Women’s International Democratic Federation to safeguard the rights and interests of children. Currently, many countries celebrate the day every First of June.
In 1996, Mongolia officially designated the day as an official public holiday.
