The northern Mongolian province of Khuvsgul has launched a campaign to plant trees to combat deforestation.

Branded “Let’s Build Green Stupas”, the campaign called will last until 2024, duringwhich time at least 1 million trees will be planted.

It is estimated that over 76.8 percent of thetotal territory of Mongolia has been struck by desertification.

The frequency of natural disasters such as yellow dust storms has been on the rise in the country due to desertification resulting from climate change, according to the ministry.

Khuvsgul Province is a region that has been heavily affected by desertification and land degradation.
