Only two Mongolian provinces remain coronavirus free

Since the first local infections in Mongolia in November 2020, the virus has spread to 19 of the country’s 21 provinces. The biggest concentration is in the capital, Ulaanbaatar, where over half the nation’s population of 3.3 million live. Despite containment measures, coronavirus has been spreading across the nation; currently, only two Mongolian provinces, namely,South Gobi (Umnugobi) and Gobi-Altai remained covid-19 free out of 21 provinces of Mongolia.

The western Mongolian province of Zavkhan has implemented a strict 72-hour lockdown after a person who arrived from Ulaanbaatar was confirmed having coronavirus infection.

In addition, the Dundgobi Province, in the south of the country,confirmed eight cases of coronavirus at the weekend.
