Yesterday (8 April), two Mongolian border guards went on the run after allegedly killing a supervisor in the Gobi-Altai Province. A Defence Ministry spokesman said that two soldiers – both aged 19 – fled the scene of the crime with their standard issue AK-47 assault rifles and 45 bullets after killing 34-year-old supervisor. In Mongolia’s border zones, each guard has been issued with a standard assault rifle and 25 bullets.
A massive manhunt, including a helicopter, has been launched for the two fugitives who made their escape by motorcycle. According to one source, the pair obtained a motorcycle from a nearby herder.
The soldiers; one from Khovd Province and the other from Orkhon Province were enrolled last autumn.
