The increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar is indicating that a surge in the local transmission of the virus is clearly occurring. As of today morning, out of the latest 24-hour batch of 11,183 test samples, 127 people tested positive. There has been a daily three-digit rise in the number of confirmed cases in Mongolia since 8 March. Whilst the figures are very modest in comparison with most countries, one needs to understand that Mongolia’s tough defence strategy against the virus had been a great success with only four deaths from the virus and zero local transmission until November. Are things changing in the country of three million?
So far, Mongolia has total of 4210 confirmed cases of coronavirus; 3678 of them are locally transmitted and 3329 of them are in Ulaanbaatar.
In addition, 73 percent or 3083 people with COVID-19 have recovered.
