MP L.Gundalai has told the newspaper Uls Turiin Toim that it is difficult to predict how the debate over changing the electoral rules will turn out. He points out that the DP took a recess from discussing a draft law on the issue during the spring session, and he believes the DP might continue the recess in the autumn session if there is no progress in negotiations.

By law, any changes in the electoral rules must be finalized at least six months before the election takes place. If the DP continues the recess, Gundalai says, it would be impossible to pass the 2012 state budget. And if the budget isn’t passed by December 1, he says the Government should resign.

But Gundalai says he doesn’t think it will come to that. He believes negotiators for the DP and the MPP will reach an agreement.
