Over 2000 Mongolians stranded in foreign countries still waiting to return home

Mongolia has repatriated a total of 27729 of its nationals since 27 January when the country of three million closed its borders in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus. According to L.Munkhtushig, Director General of the Consular Department of the Mongolian Foreign Ministry, over 21 thousand people have been repatriated with 111 charter flights from 93 countries; parallel with this, 6637 people entered the countrythrough its land borders with China and Russia.

This month, MIAT, Mongolian airlines has repatriated 542 people with four charter flights from Frankfurt and Tokyo.

However, over 2000 Mongolians are still waiting to be repatriated. Because of a serious worsening of the situation in South Korea, 1500 of them are still waiting to be return home.
