Earlier today (17 December), Mongolia repatriated 160 of its nationals from Frankfurt with a charter flight by MIAT, Mongolian Airlines. They have been isolated at hotels and resorts for 14 days of mandatory quarantine for observation of symptoms of coronavirus.
MIAT will conduct a second charter flight to Frankfurt later this month.
The National Emergency Commission has decided to resume the charter flights in December to evacuate Mongolians stranded in foreign countries, where Covid-19 is spreading at alarming rates. Apart from the second flight to Germany, MIAT will also flyto Tokyo on 20 December and to Seoul on 25 December repatriating a total of 570 people.
The National Emergency Commission suspended all 10 charter flights scheduled to be conducted in November due to the state of emergency as the first cases of local transmissions of coronavirus were confirmed in Mongolia. Fortunately, there have still been no deaths from the disease in the landlocked country.
So far, Mongolia has repatriated over 20 thousand of its nationals from foreign countries with 100 charter flights. MIATconducted its first charter flight to Wuhan, China in later February for evaluating students who were studying at the epicenter of the Covid-19 pandemic.
