Fine for Mongolia’s “upstart” National University

The Mongolian National University is often mistaken for the National University of Mongolia which was established 1942. Not surprisingly, there has been a long dispute between the two universities regarding the name.

Recently, the National Authority for Fair Competition and Consumer Protection has fined the Mongolian National University for spreading false information in an online advertisement claiming it is the biggest university in the county. Now, the university will have to pay MNT five million for this audacious and false claim.

Established in 1998 as Chandmani-Erdene College, it was renamed Mongolian National College in 2002, mutating into the Mongolian National Institute in 2004, and finally the Mongolian National University in 2012.
