Mongolian Government cancels public New Year celebration

Earlier today (4 November), the Mongolian Government decided to ban public celebrations at New Year in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus. According to Deputy Speaker Ya.Sodbaatar, families can still celebrate New Year.

In March, the National Emergency Commission decided to extend the state of advanced emergency readiness and preparation until 31 December, 2020. The quarantine period had been about to expire on 31 October.

The Mongolian Government reopened many businesses from 1 August in order to support the economy. Mongolia was one of countries which acted quickly for preventing coronavirus infection by closing its borders and grounding all flights in early February. As a result of these decisive actions, there has been no local transmission and no deaths from Covid-19.
