Mongolia considers cancelling New Year celebration

Earlier today (26 October), the National Emergency Commission decided to extend the state of advanced emergency readiness and preparation until 31 December, 2020 in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The quarantine period had been about to expire on 31 October.

Furthermore, the NEC has discussed a proposal presented by health officials to cancel the New Year celebration in order to ensure keeping the quarantine measures. According to Ya.Sodbaatar, Deputy PM, the final decision about cancelling the New Year celebration has not yet been made.

The Mongolian Government reopened many businesses from 1 August in order to support the economy. Mongolia was one of countries which acted quickly for preventing coronavirus infection by closing its borders and grounding all flights in early February.
