There will be a three-day ban on the sales and consumption of alcohol from Wednesday to Friday in the Mongolian capital city of Ulaanbaatar, which is home to more than half of Mongolia’s population of 3.2 million. Under the Law on Elections and other relevant legislation, the sale of alcohol as well as public events are being banned by decree of the mayor of Ulaanbaatar. In addition, during the period, cultural, sports events and large gatherings are also banned.
Meanwhile, on a nationwide level, sales of alcoholic beverages will be prohibited in all 21 provinces of the country on the polling day of election of local councils.
The 2020 elections of Representatives’ khurals (councils) of aimags, soums and UB districts will take place on 15 October which has been declared a national non-working day.
