Mongolia failed to fulfill its goal to export 40 million tonnes of coal this year due to the COVID-19 restrictions. However, the Mongolian Cabinet is planning to increase coal exports to 42 million tonnes in 2021 based on optimistic forecast of the Chinese economy as it recovers from the pandemic shocks. In addition, Mongolia is implementing the ‘Green Gateway’ temporary custom regulation with the Chinese Government for increasing capacity of coal deliveries.

Mongolia is expecting to earn MNT 1.3 trillion revenue from exports of 42 million tonnes of coal in 2021.
