The Prosecutor General of Mongolia reported today (7 October) that officials have been working extradite former Prime Minister Ch.Saikhanbileg from a third country where he has been receiving treatment. The 51-year-old politician is believed to be in the United States of America.
Ch.Saikhanbileg, the 27th Mongolian prime minister, has been accused of an abuse of power while working on the 2009 Oyu Tolgoi Investment Agreement and the 2015 Oyu Tolgoi Underground Mine Development and Financing Plan respectively.
Ch.Saikhanbileg was arrested in April, 2018 and then released on bail due to health problems. He subsequently departed to South Korea in November, 2019 after breaking court decision of banning him from leaving the country.
