Today (30 September), the Mongolian Cabinet approved a total of MNT 2 billion for buying brand new musical instruments for its two most prestigious bodies of musicians – namely the Mongolian Symphony Orchestra and the Morin Khuur Ensemble; these will receive. According to our sources, the musical instruments from symphony have been over used over a period of 12-23 years and desperately need to be upgraded. The Mongolian Symphony Orchestra was established in 1957 under the 118th decree by the Ministry of Culture.
The State Morin Khuur Ensemble was established in 1992 with 28 artists and musicians. The Morin Khuur, also known as the horse headed fiddle, is a two-twin instrument akin to a cello. It is the national instrument of Mongolia.
