Mongolia and Kazakhstan to cooperate on fighting COVID-19

Earlier today (12 August), Mongolian Deputy Speaker Ya.Sodbaatar  received Mr. Jalgas Adilbayev, Kazakhstan’s ambassador to Ulaanbaatar. At meeting, the Kazakh diplomat praised Mongolia’s quick response to the coronavirus pandemic which has resulted in preventing local transmissions. During the meeting, they discussed cooperation between Kazakhstan and Mongolia, exchanging information and practices on COVID-19 as well as expanding cooperation in the health sector.

As COVID-19 infections continue to rise globally, some 1300 Mongolians stranded in Kazakhstan have applied to return home; 200 of them have been repatriated with a charter flight. Subsequently, Deputy Speaker Ya.Sodbaatar explained to Ambassador Jalgas Adilbayev that the National Emergency Commission is planning more chartered flights to Nur-Sultan in order to evacuate Mongolians. There are also some Kazakhs who have been staying in Mongolia who have applied to return to Nur-Sultan.
