Mongolia’s borders with China have been closed since early February following the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan. Recently, however, two Chinese men have tried illegally entering Mongolia despite the strict lockdown.
According to officials, a Chinese man was stopped by Mongolian border guards in Dornogobi Province on 24 July while walking in the border area. He has since been isolated in a border control building and tested negative for coronavirus.
Three days later, another Chinese man has arrested in Zamyn-Uud, which is Mongolia’s main southern border town. The Chinese national was discovered hiding in a freight train from Erenhot, which is just across the border in China’s Inner Mongolia.
