The National Emergency Commission of Mongolia decided today (28 July) to start 2020-2021 academic year from September. Therefore, kindergartens and schools will open from 1 September; however, universities and colleges will start lessons from 14 September. The decision must be approved by the cabinet which meets tomorrow.
Earlier, Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh tasked the Ministry of Education and other agencies to start lessons from 1 September. Mongolian students have been doing their lessons through TV and online classes since the schools closed in mid-January as an early coronavirus lockdown measure. However, some parents have complained that learning in this way has not been efficient.
Separately, the advanced emergency readiness and preparation has been expended until 1 September. Mongolia first announced the advanced emergency readiness and preparation in mid-January then closed its borders mid-February.
