Considered by many as an eye-sore and no longer fit for purpose, a well-known Ulaanbaatar building – the ‘Urt Tsagaan’ – is being demolished. The order to pull down the multi-purpose structure was issued by Ulaanbaatar City Mayor S.Amarsaikhan. The long white building is located on Tourists’ Street in the Chingeltei District of central Ulaanbaatar. Once was a beautiful structure, it now outdated and deemed unsafe for tenants. Demolition began last night (22 July) starting with ‘A’ block where a sports centre was situated. More than 400 tenants have run business in the 12-block stucture over the last 30 years.
Tenants have been transferred to nearby ‘Glass Building’ which was owned by the former Ulaanbaatar City Bank. The bank has now been now merged with Trade and Development Bank of Mongolia.
