Earlier today (22 July), the Mongolian Cabinet tasked the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industries to prepare more than 20 thousand tonnes of meat to cover the food demand for Ulaanbaatar. This is an increase of six thousand tonnes from 2019.
Mongolian livestock has already surged to record numbers, far in excess of domestic demand. The total number reached 70.9 million animals at the end of 2019. However, in spring, the inhabitants of the Mongolian capital usually cannot afford to buy meat because of high prices: one kilogram of beef cost MNT 16000 in Ulaanbaatar in May.
