Many roads and bridges have been damaged in flooding caused by heavy rain in Mongolia. The torrential rain lasted from 10-15 July. As a result, some roads connecting various provinces with the capital, Ulaanbaatar, capital have been closed for 2-3 days.
Currently, most roads have re-opened after urgent repairs; however, two roads in the western provinces of Uvs and Bayan-Ulgii remain closed. The road connecting Ulaangom, the provincial centre of Uvs, with the northern districts remains closed after three bridges were badly damaged in the flooding. Also, the road connecting the centre of Bayan-Ulgii with the Russian border was closed after the Buraat River Bridge was damaged.
