The General Election Commission has reported that, as of 5.00 p.m local time, 1 million 54 thousand 138 out of 2 million and 624 eligible registered voters in total have cast their ballots; this means a 52.6 percent voter turnout nationwide.
In rural areas, voter turnout is averaging 48 percent. According to the GEC, voter-turnout in Sukhbaatar Province reached 65 percent followed by 64.6 percent in Bayankhongor, 63.1 percent in Uvs and Bulgan as well as 63 percent in the Gobi-Altai Province. However, turnout was less than 50 percent in Orkhon Province where only 46.6 percent of registered voters cast their ballots followed by Gobisumber and Dundgobi at 48.5 percent as well as 49.8 percent in Darkhan-Uul and Dornod and 49.7 percent in the Selenge Province.
In the capital, Ulaanbaatar, the Bayangol District leads with 54.4 percent of voter turnout followed by 54.3 percent in Khan-Uul and 50.2 percent in Bayanzurkh. However, voter turnout has been low in the Songinokhairkhan District with 39 percent.
