Mongolia’s exports of coal for all applications in May doubled from April to nearly 2.2 million tonnes, despite being 40.9% lower on year, according to recent data from Mongolia’s Customs. As concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic eased in the country, Mongolia accelerated coal deliveries to China last month.
Over January-May, Mongolia exported 6.3 million tonnes of coal for all applications, though this was still 58.2% lower on year, the Customs data shows. Some 96.8% of total coal exports were delivered to China. Mongolian coal deliveries increased markedly from the beginning of May.
