The total number of HIV carriers and AIDS patients in Mongolia has reached 293 after one new HIV case was registered in Ulaanbaatar in May, the Office of National Statistics (ONS) said on Tuesday 9 June.
Almost 99 percent of the infections were sexually transmitted, according to the report issued by the ONS. More than half of the HIV-infected are people between 20 and 44 years old. To date, 46 people registered with HIV/AIDS have died – 32 of them from AIDS.
The first case of HIV infection in Mongolia was recorded in 1992.
